Description

Glycolic acid (hydroxyacetic acid) is an organic compound and the simplest, yet one of the most effective α-hydroxy acids (AHA). It is derived from sugar cane juice.

Due to its small molecular size, glycolic acid is well absorbed and penetrates deeply into the skin. This product is sold as a 70% aqueous solution with a pH below 0.8.

Effects and Uses

In cosmetics, glycolic acid is used to improve skin appearance and texture. It reduces wrinkles, juvenile acne, and hyperkeratosis. Upon application, it reacts with the upper skin layers, stimulating lipid binding properties that hold dead skin cells together, causing exfoliation of the stratum corneum and revealing fresh, healthy skin underneath.

• At concentrations up to 10%, it moisturizes, supports skin regeneration, and stimulates fibroblasts responsible for collagen and elastin production. It smooths the skin by reducing the thickness of the stratum corneum.

• Long-term use improves the cohesion of deeper skin layers, reduces superficial wrinkles, and scars.

• Treatments with 10-35% concentration produce a mild peeling effect, eliminating "goose bumps," stretch marks, and scars.

• Concentrations above 50% should be used only under dermatologist supervision, as they cause strong exfoliation and stimulate regenerative processes in the dermis.

Usage Recommendations

This product is intended for professional use in beauty salons or by experienced users. It is a hazardous substance; improper use may cause burns or irritation. Avoid using glycolic acid treatments during periods of strong sun exposure.

• Strictly avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.

• Initial acne treatments may cause superficial crusting that will shed naturally within 3-4 days.

• Skin may become severely dry during the first two weeks—this is normal and will improve hydration later.

• Beginners may experience minor pimples or eruptions, which is a natural process of clearing skin impurities.

Contraindications

Do not use if you have:

• Herpes outbreaks

• Psoriasis

• Fungal infections

• Pregnancy or breastfeeding

• Dilated or broken blood vessels

• Severe cystic acne

Consult a dermatologist for other skin conditions. Perform an allergy test for sensitive skin. Do not use on very thin or delicate skin.

Dilution Guidelines (Approximate)

This product is highly concentrated and must be diluted before use:

Before treatments above 10%, prepare skin by applying 5-10% glycolic acid for 14 days. Apply higher concentrations for 1-2 minutes only, starting from low concentrations and short exposure times to longer ones gradually.

Treatment Procedure

• Thoroughly cleanse the skin before application.

• After application, neutralize with an alkaline solution, rinse well with water, and apply an emollient cream to soothe irritation.

• Repeat treatments weekly in a course of 6-8 weeks, no more than once per year.

• Use strong UV protection when exposed to sunlight.

• Higher concentration treatments should be done in salons or under dermatological supervision.

Glycolic acid is a colorless, odorless, hygroscopic solid, highly soluble in water. This product contains a 70% aqueous solution with a pH of approximately 0.7–0.8.
