Reishi mushroom is better known as "lingzhi" in China and Korea. In Japan it is called "reishi", which means the mushroom of spiritual power. It has been widely used in folk medicine since ancient times and is cultivated throughout Southeast Asia. It was a mandatory attribute of the emperor's palace, as it was considered a source of health and longevity, therefore it received such names as "immortal mushroom" and "treasure of emperors". The polysaccharides in Reishi stimulate the production of interferon and interleukin I and II, which are powerful anti-cancer agents. Reishi is a natural antioxidant that helps regulate the cardiovascular, nervous, and respiratory systems. The mushroom has an excellent chemical composition, it is rich in proteins, unsaturated fatty acids, and active polysaccharides.
