Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint oil (Oleum Menthae piperitae) is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of peppermint (Mentha piperita L.). It contains menthol (a monoterpene) which produces a cooling sensation, as well as menthofuran, menthone, menthol acetate, menthol valerate, felandrene, pinene, cineole, piperitone, jasmonium, tannins (6–12%), and flavonoids.

Since ancient times, peppermint leaves and oil have been used medicinally. Modern research shows peppermint oil is used for:

How to Use

Oil Burner: 4–6 drops diluted with water

Inhalations: Add 1–2 drops to hot water, inhale steam deeply for 3–7 minutes with eyes closed

Massage Oil: Dissolve 3–6 drops in 25 ml base oil (almond, olive, or grapeseed)

Bath: Add 2–5 drops mixed with 1 tbsp honey, milk, or salt to a bathtub (37–38 °C) for 10–15 minutes

Cosmetic Enhancement: Mix 3–6 drops with 10–15 ml cream, lotion, gel, or shampoo
Contraindications
Individual intolerance to mint, pregnancy, children under 6 years. Do not use undiluted.
