Marjoram essential oil (Oleum Origanum majorana) is obtained by steam distillation from dried marjoram flowers. This versatile oil is widely used in the food industry, cosmetics, bath products, perfumes, and household cleaners.

Properties and Benefits

Marjoram oil is valued for its calming and soothing effects. It helps relieve stress, insomnia, and nervous tension, restoring peace to those who are bereaved or emotionally strained. Unlike aphrodisiacs, marjoram oil tends to reduce sexual drive due to its calming nature.

Therapeutically, it is used in massage, compresses, and baths to ease arthritis, muscle pain, swelling, and menstrual discomfort. It has analgesic and warming properties, helping with menstrual pain and PMS symptoms, and can stimulate menstruation.

Marjoram oil also alleviates headaches, sinusitis, and migraines through massage or inhalation. It supports the digestive system by relieving flatulence and cramps and soothes pain from bruises, injuries, and frostbite when applied topically.

How to Use

• Oil burner: Add 3–5 drops diluted with water.

• Inhalation: Add 1–2 drops to hot water, cover your head with a towel, and inhale steam deeply for 3–7 minutes with eyes closed.

• Massage oil: Dissolve 4–6 drops in 25 ml of base oil (almond, olive, grape seed oil).

• Bath: Add 4–6 drops mixed with 1 tablespoon of honey, milk, or salt to a bath at 37–38 °C. Soak for 10–15 minutes.

• Enhancing cosmetics: Mix 2–4 drops with 10–15 ml of cream, lotion, gel, or shampoo.
