French Red Clay

Manufacturer: Argile du Velay (France)
INCI: Illite
CAS Number: 12173-60-3
Net Weight: 100 g

Description

This 100% natural, premium-quality red clay is ideal for the care of oily, combination, normal, and couperose (sensitive and capillary-prone) skin. Certified by ECOCERT for organic cosmetic use, the clay is processed at high temperatures to ensure cosmetic purity without any chemical treatment.

Properties & Benefits

French Red Clay offers a wide range of cosmetic and therapeutic benefits:

  • Gently cleanses and removes excess oil from the skin, while being milder than green clay.

  • Improves skin tone and, with regular use, gives a subtle sun-kissed glow.

  • Strengthens and seals blood vessels, helping to prevent breakage.

  • Assists in the treatment and soothing of rosacea symptoms.

Red clay is also a popular ingredient in DIY creams and cosmetic formulations, where it provides mattifying, purifying, and nourishing properties.

Usage

In Cosmetic Formulations

Recommended usage level: up to 30%.

Face Masks

Mix 4 tablespoons of clay with 3 tablespoons of water (adjust to achieve a paste-like consistency). The basic mask can be enriched with ingredients like a few drops of hyaluronic acid or algae extract. Apply to clean skin for 15–20 minutes and rinse with warm water. To prevent the mask from drying out, cover with a damp compress during use.

For dry or tired skin, substitute water with a skin-friendly oil (e.g., jojoba, sweet almond). Use similar proportions: approx. 4 tablespoons of clay to 3 tablespoons of oil.

Clay Baths

Add approximately half a cup of clay to a warm bath. Soak for at least 20 minutes. After bathing, do not rub the skin—wrap yourself in a towel and allow the skin to absorb the minerals naturally.

Hair Treatment

Mix 20 ml (4 teaspoons) of clay, 20 ml of water, and 10 ml of oil (castor oil is ideal). Apply the paste to the scalp and hair, leave on for 20 minutes, and rinse with a gentle shampoo. This treatment helps reduce breakage and hair loss, improves circulation, and combats dandruff.

Important Notes

  • Only use ceramic or wooden bowls and utensils for mixing clay.

  • Do not apply to open wounds, fresh cuts, or bleeding areas.

Composition

Naturally rich in kaolinite, iron oxide, copper, aluminum, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and trace minerals.

Origin

Mined in France, sun-dried, and mechanically crushed. No chemical processing. ECOCERT certified in France.
