Method of Production

Bergamot essential oil (Oleum Bergamottae) is obtained by cold pressing the peel of mature fruits from the evergreen bergamot tree (Citrus bergamia Risso). Raw materials for TM Aromatica bergamot oil are sourced from Italy.

Cosmetic Benefits

Bergamot oil helps normalize sebum and sweat gland secretion in oily and combination skin, drains and tightens pores, brightens the complexion, and soothes irritation. It is especially recommended for sensitive and problematic adolescent skin. Aromatic masks and washes with bergamot oil are ideal for oily skin care.

Limonene, a key component in bergamot oil, protects skin cells from free radical damage and relieves itching and excessive sweating caused by weather conditions.

Note: Bergamot oil contains furocoumarins, which are strongly photosensitizing. It accelerates tanning, so it is added to some commercial sun creams for use only after an initial tan is achieved. Avoid applying bergamot oil to skin before sun exposure to prevent pigmentation and irritation.

Bergamot oil also nourishes hair and scalp, reduces itching and dandruff, restores hair structure, adds shine, and stimulates hair growth by improving follicle nutrition.

Aromatherapy Benefits

Combination with Other Oils

Bergamot oil blends well with jasmine, ylang-ylang, cypress, coriander, lavender, lemon, marjoram, juniper, cedarwood, neroli, palmarosa, patchouli, geranium, chamomile, and rosewood. Its effects are enhanced when combined with sage and eucalyptus oils.

How to Use

• Cosmetic enrichment: Mix 2–5 drops of bergamot oil (or a blend) with 10–15 ml of base (vegetable oil, cream, tonic, lotion, mask, shampoo, conditioner).

• Massage: Mix 4–6 drops with 1–2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (e.g., almond oil).

• Baths: Add 4–6 drops mixed with 1–2 tablespoons of emulsifier (milk, honey, sea or table salt) to a bath at 37–38 °C. Soak for 10–15 minutes.

• Sauna: Add 3–5 drops to heated stones diluted in 500 ml water.

• Room aromatisation: Add 3–7 drops per 15 m² to an aroma lamp filled with water or apply to a napkin/hot water cup on a radiator. Duration: 15–30 minutes.

• In case of eye contact, rinse thoroughly with water.

• Bergamot oil is photosensitizing: do not apply to skin less than 60 minutes before sun exposure to prevent irritation and burns.

Storage
