Description

Properties and Benefits

Anise essential oil is known for improving skin elasticity, normalizing the water-lipid balance, and enhancing overall skin tone. It gives the skin a youthful, healthy appearance and can also support emotional balance and home hygiene. With its sweet, spicy aroma, this oil helps rejuvenate tired skin and uplift the senses.

Method of Production

Anise essential oil (Oleum Anisi) is obtained by steam distillation from crushed fruits (seeds) of the annual plant Pimpinella anisum L. (also known as Anisum vulgare Gaertn.).
The raw materials are sourced from China.

Aroma and Appearance

The oil has a sweet-spicy, fresh aniseed scent with warming top notes. It is a colorless or light yellow liquid that may darken over time. When cooled, it crystallizes into a snow-white solid, which melts at 15–20 °C. After being boiled or aged, it no longer crystallizes.

Cosmetic Benefits

Anise essential oil is especially beneficial for mature and sagging skin, helping improve elasticity and tone. It can be used in:

  • Facial care – via steam baths, aromatic washes, and massage blends.

  • Décolleté care – for firmer, rejuvenated skin.

  • Hair care – strengthens hair follicles, adds shine, and boosts growth.

It is particularly useful for aging or dry skin that needs firming and revitalization.

Emotional and Aromatherapeutic Effects

In aromatherapy, anise oil has a cheering, warming, and stimulating effect. It helps combat:

  • Low mood and mental fatigue

  • Excessive sensitivity and anxiety

  • Difficulty falling asleep

It may also have libido-enhancing properties due to its rich, spicy aroma.

Household Uses

Anise essential oil is effective in repelling insects like mosquitoes, moths, mites, fleas, lice, and bird parasites. It provides a natural solution for pest control around the home while offering a pleasant aroma.

Oil Combinations

Anise oil blends well with the following essential oils:

  • For cosmetic use: ylang-ylang, lavender, peppermint, patchouli, fir, sandalwood, fennel, sage, eucalyptus

  • For aromatherapy: nutmeg, oregano, lemongrass, exotic verbena, bay oil

How to Use

► Enrichment of cosmetics
Add 3–5 drops of anise essential oil (or a blend) to 10–15 ml of base (cream, oil, tonic, shampoo, etc.).

► Massage
Use 3–5 drops per 15 ml of a carrier oil or cream for a relaxing and revitalizing massage.

► Bath
Mix 3–5 drops of oil with 1–2 tablespoons of an emulsifier (milk, honey, or salt) and add to a warm bath (37–38 °C). Soak for 10–15 minutes.

► Sauna
Dilute 2–3 drops of oil in 500 ml of water and sprinkle over hot sauna stones.

► Room aromatization
Add 3–4 drops (per 15 m²) to an aroma lamp filled with water. Burn for 15–30 minutes. Alternatively, use on a napkin or in a bowl of hot water placed on a radiator.
