Description
Salicylic acid 99.79%
Salicylic acid belongs to the group of beta-hydroxy acids (the only one of this group to be used in cosmetics). It can be used in the same way as hydroxy acids, i.e. for chemical peeling, and is a common ingredient in numerous cosmetic formulas.
Salicylic acid is fat- and alcohol-soluble, practically insoluble in water (max. 0.2 g/l). It is gentler than AHA acids, with less frequent side effects such as burning or excessive peeling.
Recommended for oily, normal and acne-prone skin.
Effect
Salicylic acid, due to its fat-soluble nature, does not only have a superficial effect on the skin, but also penetrates the sebum layer deep into the pores of the skin, unclogging them and cleansing them of blackheads, has an anti-inflammatory, bacterial and fungicidal effect.
It prevents the formation of pimples, has a disinfectant effect on the skin and stimulates regeneration processes.
In summary, salicylic acid:
- unclogs pores and cleanses the sebaceous gland mouths
- Cleanses hair follicles
- has an antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory effect
- removes unnecessary keratinised skin cells
- reduces the visibility of acne scars
- Smoothes wrinkles and tightens the skin
How to use
SALICYLIC ACID CANNOT BE USED DURING PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING . DO NOT EXPOSE YOURSELF TO THE SUN OR GO TO A SOLARIUM DURING TREATMENT. PERSONS SENSITIZED TO SALICYLANS (e.g. Aspirin) SHOULD NOT USE THE ACID.
Salicylic acid is gentler in action than AHA acids and causes less irritation. In cosmetic formulations, it is usually used in concentrations of 1-2%, often in combination with alcohol or cosmetic oils. When salicylic acid is used as a chemical peel, higher concentrations of 10-30% acid in ethanol are used.
