Peppermint oil (Oleum Menthae piperitae) is obtained from steam distillation of the leaves of peppermint (Mentha piperita L.).
It consists of menthol (a monoterpene), which acts on cold receptors to produce a feeling of cold; menthofuran, menthone, menthol acetate, menthol valerate, felandrene, pinene, cineole, piperitone, jasmonium, tannins (6-12%), flavonoids.
Since ancient times, peppermint leaves and peppermint oil have been used in medicine. Nowadays, e.g. scientific research, peppermint oil is used in:

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in the form of enteral capsules

in combination with caraway oil in dyspepsia

in tension headaches (topical)

externally in the form of ointments, liquids in combination with other ingredients with analgesic, antipruritic and soothing effects

added to rectal infusions may have a smooth muscle relaxant effect
Peppermint oil has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, expectorant, tonic and diastolic effects. It has a strong and positive effect on the circulatory system, particularly on the heart. Potentiates the effects of cardiac medicines. It actively stimulates the brain. It is a first aid treatment for shock. Effectively relieves symptoms of motion sickness.
Helps in the treatment of all kinds of liver diseases. Relieves migraine headaches and menstrual pains.
It is used to treat respiratory disorders (colds, catarrhs, bronchial infections), muscle and bone pains. In dermatology, it is used to treat eczema, acne, skin inflammation and nail fungus It is recommended for the care of ageing skin and eliminates wrinkles.
How to use
OIL BURNER: 4 - 6 drops diluted with water into the burner.
INHALATIONS: add 1-2 drops of oil to a pot of hot water, cover the head with a towel and inhale the steam deeply over 3-7 minutes. Eyes must be closed.
MASSAGE OIL: dissolve 3-6 drops of oil in 25ml of base oil (almond oil, olive oil and grapeseed oil).
BATH: add 2 - 5 drops of oil mixed with 1 tablespoon of honey, milk or salt to a filled bathtub (37-38 C). The duration of the treatment is 10 - 15 minutes.
COSMETIC ENHANCEMENT: mix 3 - 6 drops of oil with 10-15 ml of cream, lotion, gel or shampoo.
Contraindications: individual intolerance to mint. Pregnant women. Do not use in children under 6 years of age. Do not use without dilution.
