Melissa Essential Oil
INCI: Melissa Officinalis Oil
Manufacturer: Aromatika
Properties and Benefits
Melissa Essential Oil (also known as Lemon Balm oil) is a precious oil derived from the leaves and flowering tops of Melissa officinalis through steam distillation. It has a fresh, lemony scent with subtle floral notes that is simultaneously calming and uplifting. Its aroma is often described as cool, light, sweet, and slightly tangy, making it one of the most refined and valuable essential oils in aromatherapy.
This essential oil is ideal for emotional support—it soothes anxiety, relieves stress, and promotes a sense of optimism. It also stimulates concentration and mental clarity, making it helpful during periods of high mental demand. Melissa oil is especially useful during emotional distress, panic, or insomnia, and even helps the body adapt to new time zones or environments.
It also deodorizes and refreshes indoor spaces, and works as a natural insect repellent when diffused.
Cosmetic Benefits
Melissa oil is highly regarded in premium skincare and haircare products. It is particularly effective for oily, acne-prone, or problematic skin. It helps reduce enlarged pores, calms inflammation, and restores skin tone and firmness. It is also beneficial in lip care—helping restore their natural color and outline—and supports skin elasticity, especially useful in cases of cellulite or skin sagging.
In haircare, Melissa essential oil is suitable for oily hair prone to dandruff. It helps normalize sebum production, reduce the greasy appearance of hair, and promotes a fresh, clean scalp. It also enhances the overall tone and texture of hair, leaving it lighter and less prone to clumping.
Aromatherapy Uses
Melissa essential oil is known for its dual action—it both soothes and revitalizes. It is a great companion during periods of emotional imbalance, as it calms the nervous system and helps restore inner peace. It supports restful sleep, aligns natural biorhythms, and is helpful for overcoming nervous exhaustion.
Its use in aroma lamps or diffusers promotes emotional balance, enhances memory and focus, and gently uplifts the spirit.
