Lutein is a yellow xanthophyll pigment found in plants. Lutein is contained in green plant leaves and yellow and orange vegetables. One plant source of lutein is the erect velvet plant, a plant with yellow and orange flowers. Erecting velvet also contains zeaxanthin, a chemical compound from the xanthophyll group.
