Description
Cedar Essential Oil (Cupressus Funebris Wood Oil)
Cedar essential oil is derived from the wood of the Chinese cedar tree. With its fresh, woody aroma, this oil transports you to the serene, ancient mountain forests, providing mental clarity, emotional balance, and a sense of comfort and security. It is an excellent ally for hair loss and dandruff treatment and offers rejuvenating benefits to your skin.
Origin and Production
Cedar essential oil (Oleum Cupressus Funebris) is obtained by steam distillation of the wood of the Chinese cedar or weeping cedar (Cupressus funebris), a member of the Cypress family (Cupressaceae). Aromatica sources this oil from China.
Properties
The oil is a viscous, colorless to light yellow or light brown liquid with a mild but persistent cedarwood scent. It may partially solidify at room temperature due to the formation of needle-like cedrol crystals.
Cosmetic Benefits
-
Skin Care: Cedar oil helps rejuvenate and increase skin firmness and turgor, especially beneficial for oily and aging skin by restoring elasticity and providing a tightening effect.
-
Hair Care: Ideal for oily hair, cedar oil is a tonic that helps prevent hair loss and dandruff. It stimulates slow-growing hair through nourishing scalp massages or aroma rinses.
-
Body Care: Often used in combination with orange essential oil to improve skin conditions related to obesity and cellulite.
Note: Due to high concentration, cedar essential oil should always be diluted in carrier oils or emulsifiers before topical use.
Aromatherapy Benefits
Cedar essential oil is prized for its calming and grounding effects. It relieves stress, anxiety, and insecurity, boosting mental clarity, creativity, and vigor. Known as a protective and strengthening oil, it supports confidence, faith in success, and is even used as a money attractor.
This oil is a powerful adaptogen, aiding recovery from travel fatigue, climate changes, jet lag, meteorological sensitivity, and magnetic storms. Using a humidifier with cedar oil helps restore energy and balance.
It also soothes skin irritation and redness from insect bites and serves as a natural repellent against mosquitoes.
Blending Suggestions
Cedar oil blends well with bergamot, lemon, vetiver, hyssop, sage, jasmine, cypress, cinnamon, lavender, frankincense, juniper, neroli, and rose oils. Complementary oils include grapefruit, rosewood, and ylang-ylang. Its effects are enhanced with rosemary (1:1) or eucalyptus and orange oils (1:1:1:1).
